Who We Are

Nobody longs for a safe and loving family more than a child in foster care. As a CASA volunteer, you are empowered to help make this dream a reality. You will be the one consistent adult in these children's lives, vigilantly fighting for and protecting their fundamental right to be treated with the dignity and respect every child deserves. You will not only bring positive change to the lives of these vulnerable children but also their children and generations to come. And in doing so, you will enrich your life as well.

CASA volunteers get to know the child by talking to everyone involved in that child's life: parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers, and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent plan for them.

You do not have to be a lawyer or a social worker to be a CASA volunteer. We welcome people from all walks of life. We are simply looking for people who care about children and have common sense. As a CASA volunteer, you will be thoroughly trained and well supported by professional staff to help you through each case.

To be a CASA volunteer you must complete a free 30+ hour training course, agree to stay with a case until it's closed, pass a background check, and be sworn into service by a judge.

To get started, visit our website, follow our Facebook page, or attend an information meeting. We look forward to hearing from you!

What We Do

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) programs recruit, train and support community volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children and youth in the child in need of aid (child welfare) system. Anchorage CASA started in 1987 as a program of the Office of Public Advocacy child advocacy unit.

Our vision is to have an extensive network of culturally competent CASA volunteers effectively advocating for abused and neglected children.

We have programs in Anchorage, Fairbanks. Juneau, and the Mat Su Valley.
