It’s not what they are doing; it’s what they are becoming

 

The Great Alaska Council has five camps, Eagle River Scout Camp, Chilkoot High Adventure Base, Denali High Adventure Base, Gorsuch and Carlquist, which are Nationally accredited and home to Cub Scout Day Camps, Cub Scout Resident Camps, short-term camping, Boy Scout Summer Camp, High Adventure Camp, Boy Scout Camporee’s, Repelling, C O P E and climbing programs, aquatics programs and training courses for adult volunteer leaders and youth.

In 2012 1,272 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, Explorers and Leaders enjoyed Council facilities for weekend outings, family camping and training activities comprising over 40,704 “Camper Days” Over 30 groups and 1,568 youth and adults from community organizations enjoyed our facilities and programs as well The Great Alaska Council maintains four excellent, quality facilities and offers a variety of exciting programs each year.

 

Rasmuson Scout Reservation

 

Located at the Rasmuson Scouting Reservation just 23 miles north of Anchorage on Mirror and Edmonds Lakes, two of the council camps - Camp Gorsuch for Boy Scouts and Camp Carlquist for Cub Scouts - provide a home for exciting summer camp program Accreditation by Boy Scouts of America National Camp Accreditation Program ensures safe and well-planned programs

 

Camp Gorsuch

 

  • 230 acres, located on the shores of Mirror Lake 
  • 9 Troop sites 
  • Accommodates up to 180 resident campers

 

 

Buildings: kitchen & dining hall, ranger’s house, staff housing, camp director’s office, trading post, handicrafts, first-aid lodge, Dan’s Palace pavilion, rifle/archery ranges, aquatics tower, C O P E

 

Camp Carlquist

 

  • 69.45 acres, located on the shores of Edmonds Lake 
  • 7 den sites 
  • 20 heated cabins 
  • Accommodates up to 220 resident campers

 

Buildings: Main building includes gymnasium, kitchen, dining hall, apartment, conference room, camp director’s office, fi rst-aid facility, trading post; Elmer’s House; staff housing, 20 cabins, shower facility, 2 cabooses, and playground.

Eagle River Scout Camp

Located 28 miles north of Juneau, Eagle River Camp provides exciting Boy Scout and Cub Scout programs Accreditation by Boy Scouts of America National Camp Accreditation Program ensures safe and well-planned programs 

  • 262 acres located on Lynn Canal 
  • 5 patrol sites 
  • 17 cabins accommodate 
  • up to 120 resident campers

 

Buildings: Dining Hall, Storage, Shower house, Trading Post/Medical Lodge, rifle/shotgun/archery ranges, aquatics, Camp Director’s office, Scoutcraft and handicraft pavilion, staff cabins

Denali High Adventure Base

 

Our newest facility is still under development located 17 air miles north of Talkeetna, bordered by the Chulitna River on the west, and Susitna river on the east and Denali State Park on the north (mile marker 133, Parks Hwy). Opening in 2013, Accreditation by Boy Scouts of America National Camp Accreditation Program to ensure safe and well-planned programs 

  • 2,158 acres located on Blair Lake
  • 5 troop sites

 

 

Buildings: Storage To be developed: Shooting/Archery complex, shower facilities, staff housing, Nature and Aquatics area, trails, roads.
