Description

Join HOPE worldwide as we partner with the Great Land Christian Church, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Alaska, the American Red Cross, and the Anchorage Fire Department to honor the memory of the victims of 9/11, as well as thank our local fire department here in Anchorage.

Volunteers will engage in an appreciation event for the local fire department, followed by appreciation “in action,” by participating in the American Red Cross’s Fire Prevention Canvassing program. The event will begin with a short ceremony in which the victims of 9/11 will be remembered, and then the local fire department will be thanked for their current service to the city of Anchorage. The main portion of the event will include volunteers going door-to-door in order to inform and remind homeowners and renters of the dangers of house fires, the importance of an updated evacuation plan, and the significance of ensuring all fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors are all in working order and up-to-date. Volunteers will be prepared to have conversations with homeowners or renters each time they knock on the door. However, if no one is there to answer the door, volunteers will have door hangers that will provide important fire safety information to its readers.

Our goal is to recruit over 200 volunteers, reach 3000 households, and have 1000 conversations with local residents in order to do our best to prevent deadly house fires!
