Volunteer: Free Clinic: Need medical and non-medical helpers

I'm reaching out for volunteers 14 years old and older for an upcoming free health clinic that I am managing and hosting on behalf of the local Mountain View Lions Club and Remote Area Medical. We would love to get volunteers for a minimum 6-hour shift, but can allow folks to go all day, each day if desired. The main event is Sept 12-13 in Fairbanks and Sept 19-20 in Anchorage, with a setup day that preceding Friday. Remote Area Medical popup clinic (www.ramusa.org)

Fairbanks Carlson Center, 2010 2nd Ave, 99701

Anchorage Sullivan Arena, 1600 Gambell St, 99501

• Friday, setup day: 10am to 6pm

• Saturday, Clinic day 1: 4:30am to 8pm Volunteers, 6am to 6pm public

• Sunday, Clinic day 2: 4:30am to 8pm Volunteers, 6am to 3pm public.


What: This event will be offering first-come-first-serve free general health, women's health, dental and vision care for anyone who comes. This includes full dental workups, and glasses made on-site. We will be expecting people from all walks of life including the destitute, workers who cannot get health insurance, families, and even business owners who do not have insurance themselves. We are expecting to see between 300 to 400 neighbors, depending on the number of volunteers we can get registered. We need people signed up ONLINE by SEPTEMBER 1ST to determine how much equipment we are able to bring up for this event. They sign up online at volunteer.ramusa.org, and choosing to sign up for the Alaska clinic site.


Tasks for volunteers: This is not exhaustive, but general. More will be needed during the day.

• Parking lot detail

• assisting people with filling out paperwork/translating

• pushing wheelchairs

• carrying equipment (tables/chairs/tools) across a gymnasium

• carrying/plating/dispensing donated food to volunteers

• acting as messengers for administration

• setting up/tearing down tables/chairs/tents/pipedrape


Uniform: Street pants and street shoes, with capacity to change to a volunteer shirt during the day. Advised no jewelry or watches. Carry personal ID for check-in. Parents can volunteer alongside; under 18, we would need a guardian providing a paper consent form upon check-in.


Compensation:

• Endorsed volunteer hours by two national nonprofits

• Personalized letters of thanks by the community leader (me!)

• Free meals for each day during service

• Free T-shirt
