The United Way of Anchorage United Fund is a grant program for organizations performing short-term, impactful work related to UWA’s Community Impact Priorities.
The United Fund provides short-term funding to support projects that emerge in response to community needs. Short-term projects within existing programs will be considered as well as cross-agency collaborations and pilots or rapid-cycle testing of innovative solutions.
The United Fund enables UWA to support compelling, community-responsive projects that align with UWA’s goals and Impact Priorities.
What is the role and responsibility of a United Fund Review Volunteer?
To serve on a team of volunteers charged with reviewing applications for United Way funding from health and human services programs in the community.
· Review online applications
· Evaluate agencies’ financial and operational competency
· Assess project applications using a rubric and make recommendations to the United Way Community Impact team
· Provide recommendations for applicants’ financial and operational improvement, if needed
What is the time commitment to serve as a volunteer?
· Volunteers read through training materials and overview provided electronically
· Volunteers should be prepared to conduct some hours (3-4) of evaluation over a four-week period in the form of at-home, online evaluation in May-June 2026
· Volunteers attend a meeting on June 23, 2026 – if requested by most volunteers. The meeting will be held online with fellow volunteers to discuss their evaluations and finalize their recommendations to United Way What qualifications are required or desired to participate?
· Understand and support United Way’s role in the community
· Have a program management, accounting, or financial background
· Enjoy analytical and evaluation processes
· Able to be fair and impartial
· Have no conflict of interest (and complete form agreeing to Conflict of Interest policy)
