Who We Are

Our free book program started in March 2009 and today has more than 8,000 children enrolled- that's 1/3 of the children in Anchorage under the age of five! We also hold family events at no cost to our families.

The Anchorage Imagination Library is a program of Best Beginnings that strives to improve literacy and and inspire a love of reading.

Our primary program is a free book delivery program. Any child under the age of five, living in the municipality of Anchorage is elligible to enroll to receive a book in the mail each month. The Imagination Library is a program that was started by Dolly Parton in Tennessee and is now available nation-wide to any community with willing volunteers and local fundraising.

In addition, we also host free family events throughout the community to help promote early family reading and offer fun ideas of how parents can engage their child in literacy activities.

The Anchorage Imagination Library is run almost entirely by volunteers- and we're always looking for new people to join us in our efforts!
