Who We Are
AYC is a juvenile diversion program run by youth for youth. Youth take a class in order to be sworn in as members, who then volunteer their time as attorneys, clerks, bailiffs, and judges hearing cases for young offenders. Youth members learn civic responsibility, advocacy, public speaking, and reasoning skills all while providing a service to their peers. Youth defendants have the opportunity have charges against them dropped if they complete the program and are less likely to commit another crime after going through AYC. Former youth defendants are strongly encouraged to join as members to help others.
Open to youth 12-18 years old in Anchorage, Chugiak, Eagle River, and Girdwood.
