Who We Are

Teen Center and Clinic

A professional staff backs the peer counselors at the outreach center midtown Anchorage. Together they create a safe place where youth can visit with one another in a relaxed environment, learn about safer ways to live, and access mental health care as needed. No one makes judgments – the only goal is to help.

Street Outreach

Peer counselors look for youth in community settings to let them know where to find the POWER Center, connect to other community resources, and make sure youth know where they can go to get their basic needs met.

Presentations

Peer counselors talking with – not at –youth with education and resources for youth to make good decisions for a productive life. Youth listen to each other.

Youth Volunteerism

Young people who have little or no family support, often have quit school, may suffer from abuse or addiction, and have no place to go but the streets still have the desire and capacity to give back to their communities. Peer counselors provide volunteer opportunities for youth to help their community.

What We Do

POWER Center offers the chance for a healthier life to young people who have little or no family support, often have quit school, may suffer from abuse or addiction, and have no place to go but the streets. Through the POWER Teen Center in midtown Anchorage, we reach out to youth, offering a caring environment and information that can help them make good decisions in their lives. At POWER young people who have overcome their own challenges learn how to help others by becoming peer counselors. POWER Center forms partnerships with other organizations to increase the opportunity for success for youth. What we don’t provide, others often do. This approach keeps us focused on its core purpose and values and stretches resources.

Core Values: Empowerment, A Voice, Connections

Mission
To advocate and foster for the safety and well-being of youth at risk so they may lead productive lives; to strengthen youth and their families so they may integrate back into school and the community.
