What We Do
Camp Fire Alaska is the largest provider of school-age child care in the state and an established expert in the youth development field. The agency has a long history of providing quality experiences for youth in Alaska and has had a presence in the state since 1913.
While originally created in 1910 as the first nationwide, non-sectarian organization for girls, the agency became coeducational in 1975.
Today, Camp Fire’s work in the community is essential - providing learning and growth opportunities to youth and support for working families. Research has shown that participation in quality out-of-school-time programs not only increases graduation rates, but also results in higher test scores, better grades, and increased aspirations for attending college. When youth succeed, our community succeeds.
Camp Fire programs utilize methods that tap into young people’s aspirations to help them achieve their full potential.
Camp Fire Alaska’s four core programs are:
-Licensed Before and After-School Programs
29 locations serve more than 1,400 youth each school day
-Community Center Programs
3 neighborhood-based locations serving at-risk youth
-Summer Camps
Residential and Day Camps that serve 1,500 youth each year
-Rural Alaska Program
Summer camp experiences for more than 2,000 youth in 27 rural Alaska communities.
