Anchorage Youth Court trains Anchorage/Chugiak/Eagle River/Girdwood area youth in grades 7-12 to represent and judge their peers in actual cases, providing hands-on justice for teens who have broken the law. Students train and serve as clerks, bailiffs, prosecuting and defense attorneys, as well as judges. Participation encourages understanding and respect for the law in a formal court setting. AYC's juvenile diversion program helps teens develop citizenship, leadership, and practical skills while providing the opportunity for juvenile offenders to take responsibility and positively engage in the community.
Youth age 12 - 18 have the opportunity to become members by taking the AYC New Member Class and learning about Anchorage Youth Court's juvenile diversion program.
Registration for fall classes begins on Monday, August 22. Classes begin the week of September 19 and go through November 5. Contact the AYC office at 274-5986 or visit www.anchorageyouthcout.org for more information about the classes.
